The first level of a “Donegal Double” was achieved last night on TG4’s Glor Tire as Ardara’s Grainne Gavigan sang her way into the finals in a highly contested but most entertaining show this evening.

Grainne who hails from Ardara is the daughter of Hugh and Eileen Gavigan and is mentored by the well known Lisa McHugh, a former contestant on the successful show and a representative in the Mary from Dungloe International festival.

Grainne told the Donegal Democrat during her visit to the Donegal offices on her way to Galway “I couldn’t ask for a better mentor, Lisa has been there, reaching the final herself, she’s young and very successful in her career as a Country singer.”

This evening at the famous Quay’s Pub in Galway, Grainne gave a great performance with her two songs - one in English and the other “as Gaelige” - “The Connemara Marble Ring” and “ Doire Colm Chille” and made it through along with Michael Regan on the first count of the votes.

Grainne is now urging her supporters to get out and show their support for Downings man Shane McLaughlin on the Voice of Ireland on Sunday evening.
