Voting in the Arthur Guiness Projects ends this Friday, August 23 and a number of initiatives from Donegal are looking for your support.

Voting in the Arthur Guiness Projects ends this Friday, August 23 and a number of initiatives from Donegal are looking for your support.

The top 10% of applications in each of the four categories (Arts, Music, Sports, Food), as voted on by the public, will be reviewed by the Arthur Guinness Projects panel who will then choose the winning projects.

Some of the projects representing the county are outlined below. Apologies for any omissions.

In Arts, Breaking Ground, a Letterkenny-based group of writers and actors, produce new works, present live performances and make new films. Also in arts, Inishowen Carnival Group plan to create a stunning outdoor performance called The Tribe, based on the theme of an apocalyptic celtic cyber tribe. Killybegs sculptor Alva Gallagher’s Undercurrents project freeze-frames the perpetual movement of the oceans.

In Music, McGrory’s of Culdaff’s Melting Pod project brings together musicians from different backgrounds to create original material within one week, with audio recording and live performance.

In Sport, Liquid Therapy: Accessing the Ocean brings young people facing various physical, mental, emotional or behavioral challenges to the sea in Bundoran.

In food, Donegal chef Zack Gallagher runs guided food-based holidays around all of Ireland. The 2014 Guth Gafa International Documentary Film Festival will focus on food and Ann-Louise McClintock’s ‘Walking with Cupcakes’ is a book and project to help people with depression.
