Inishowen crash case to be heard in the autumn
A Circuit Court judge has said that a case of alleged dangerous driving causing the deaths of eight people in Inishowen will be given priority at the next sitting of the court in October.

A Circuit Court judge has said that a case of alleged dangerous driving causing the deaths of eight people in Inishowen will be given priority at the next sitting of the court in October.

Shaun Kelly (24) of Hill Road, Ballymagan, Buncrana is charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths on July 11, 2010 at Meenaduff on the Buncrana to Clonmany road.

At Letterkenny Circuit Court this morning (Tuesday), barrister Peter Nolan said he understood family members of some of the men who died in the incident wished to address Judge John O’Hagan on the matter of the pending trial.

Judge O’Hagan said the case was “very serious” and indicated the trial could last up to four days.

“It is regrettable it can’t go on this term but it is unavoidable,” he told the court.

He could not comment on the case, he added, nor could he permit representatives of the families to speak at this time.

He adjourned the case to the next court sitting, starting on October 29.
