A temporary emergency department will open at Letterkenny General Hospital, on a phased basis, from tomorrow at 10am.
At a press conference today, hospital manager Sean Murphy said the hospital would accept a limited number of ambulance admissions tomorrow and a greater number, around 40 per cent of normal ambulance admissions on Sunday.
By Monday, the department should be able to accept all admissions, including patients presenting themselves, from the north of the county.
Patients from the south of the county will continue to be directed to Sligo until at least next week. An announcement will be made when this situation changes.
By the week after next, LGH should be able to deal with all emergency department admissions.
New traffic and parking restrictions will be in place and temporary catering facilities should be in place within the next fortnight.
