They may not have done it in McCumhaill Park but the Red Hand warriors reigned supreme at last weekend’s annual Bundoran Soap Box Derby and also scooped the top prize in the ball race in Bundoran’s Big Bank Holiday Weekend.

Over 2,500 spectators gathered on Astoria Hill on Sunday last for the Derby event, which also featured a lucrative ball race. The Red Hand county proved that it was very much “on the ball” with Mary Collins from Castlederg taking the top prize.

The large crowd packed onto the Astoria Hill to watch the thrills, spills and crashes from some very creative soapbox cars in warm summer sunshine. McClean Motorsport’s narrowly beat rival local competitors Good Time Charlies to clinch the title.

The first race of the day was started by the new ‘Belle of Bundoran’ Rio Carlin Rosanio, who was crowned in a glittering function in the Great Northern Hotel on Friday last.
