There will be a commemoration in west Donegal on Saturday for Caoimhín Mac Brádaigh, one of three men killed in Milltown Cemetery 25 years ago.

Caoimhín Mac Brádaigh, John Murray and Thomas McErlean were killed on March 16th, 1988, at the funeral of Danny McCann, Sean Savage and Mairead Farrell. The three men were among a wave of mourners who tried to stop Michael Stone’s shooting and grenade-throwingrampage in the cemetery.

“Caoimhín was shot in Milltown Cemetery because he ran towards the man who was shooting into the crowd, to protect the people who were in the graveyard,” said Gráinne Mhic Géidigh, former Sinn Féin member of Údarás na Gaeltachta, and a friend of Caoimhín’s. “And at that time it just rang in my head – it was so like Caoimhín to be a protective person, to care for people.”
