Dinny McGinley TD Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht has welcomed the allocation by his colleague Minister for Tourism, Transport and Sport Leo Varadkar TD of a further grant of €450,000 under the CAPEX scheme towards the Donegal Regional Airport.

The CAPEX scheme is for capital works for safety and security projects at regional airports. Some €151,000 has already been provided to Donegal Regional Airport earlier this year providing €43,200 towards Navigational Charts and €108,000 towards Hold Baggage X-Ray equipment.

Minister McGinley welcomed this further allocation in the past week, of an additional grant of €450,000 under the CAPEX to Donegal Airport. This is to 90% fund an extension to the security screening area.

This brings their total allocation under the CAPEX scheme for 2013 to €601,200.

Welcoming the allocation Minister McGinley said: “The funding is very welcome as Donegal Regional Airport provides a vitally important service to the county and Northern region. I welcome today’s confirmation of the additional allocation from Minister Varadkar’s Department, and hope the improvements from this funding can be delivered as a priority.”
