There will be a very important fundraiser tonight (Friday) in Ballyshannon in aid of a little girl who is less than a year old but has already undergone three major operations.

Allie Patterson Newell, granddaughter of Bridie Patterson, was born in January. Her left tibia was missing, resulting in her lower leg and foot being malformed. Her leg is to be amputated through the knee when she is one year old and she will be fitted with a prosthetic leg almost immediately.

According to Allie’s surgeon in Temple Street Children’s Hospital this is an extremely rare condition with an instance of approximately one per one million live births.

Allie also had a secondary birth defect for which she has had three operations in Temple Street Hospital, Dublin.

Bridie told the Donegal Democrat: “We are very grateful and thank God that the outcome of those operations has been very successful. We will be eternally grateful to Temple Street Hospital Consultants and Staff for the excellent care and attention Allie received and for the parent’s facilities that were available to her Mum Breege and Dad Barry.

“Despite all she has been through, Allie is a wonderful little girl with a beautiful bright smile ready for everyone around her. She is an inspiration to us all and we her family want to ensure she will be able to reach her full potential as she grows.

“We are reasing to support Temple Street Children’s University Hospital and also to support Allie with her present and future needs. Any support you can give will be very much appreciated.”
Tonight’s fundraiser at the Travellers Rest, Cashelard, will feature music from the Rockhill Ramblers and Special Guests. All proceeds wil be divided evenly between Temple Street Children’s Hospital and a fund for Allie.

Raffle cards have been in circulation over the last few weeks with some great prizes on offer and the draw will take place on the night.

An auction will also be held for an air trip in a Christen Eagle bi-plane, sponsored by Andrew Fenton. Fly from Sligo Airport around the Benbulben Mountain range and Donegal Bay. Any daredevils may opt for an aerobatic flight instead, all proceeds to Temple Street
CUH and Allie Patterson Newell.

A Quiz Night will also be held in Owen Roe’s Bar, Ballyshannon on December 27.
