Letterkenny-based anti-drugs campaigner, PJ Blake, is hoping that the five first citizens of Donegal will support him in his effort to have the falling numbers deployed in the county’s garda drugs unit addressed.
“I am confident that all five first citizens will get behind me and back me in my call for more officers to be added to the unit, rather than more being taken from it,” Mr Blake commented.
“I’d like to thank Cllr Philip McGlynn from Bundoran who has confirmed that he will be supporting the cause. One only has to listen to the local radio stations or pick up the local newspapers to get a feel for what is going on in terms of drugs dealing, drug abuse and the effect drugs are having on our young people,” he added.
“As we head in to a new year, I am urging everyone is their respective communities to be extra vigilant and be on the look out for drugs. There is an onus on all law-abiding citizens to do their bit, and if they have information they feel will help they should pass it on to the gardai. We must all do as much as we can to make it a drug-free new year. We have seen in recent times how local information and knowledge can help the gardai in their fight against the ongoing battle with drugs. Hopefully, more gardai will be deployed in this area in 2013.”
