Celebrity Bainisteoir and top Irish model, Pippa O’Connor, drew criticism in the county after her outbursts on the first episode of the popular RTÉ series which was screened on Sunday night last.

The Kildare-born model, who last year married TV presenter Brian Ormonde, also a Celebrity Bainisteoir, expressed her outrage when she was assigned Naomh Brid in Ballintra as her designated club.

Ms. O’Connor said that it was just too far away saying, “I’m going home - I’m not going to Donegal. You are joking me,” adding that anytime she had been there it had rained.

The statements annoyed tourism interests here. They felt that statements like this could be damaging to the tourism image of the county.

Many local people in South Donegal also expressed disappointment, saying that they had gone out of their way to make Pippa welcome in Donegal and felt that her remarks were “far from appropriate”.

In an interview with the Donegal Democrat, Ms. O’Connor stated that her first impression was very much one of disappointment, but that since arriving at Trummon, she has had a total change of heart.

“This interview was filmed months ago in a wet and windy Dublin when we were all tired. Since coming to Donegal I have been shown nothing but the great traditional Donegal hospitality.

“It is the best thing that ever happened me and I simply can’t get enough of this county. I am even dragging Brian up at weekends - hopefully it might put him off his game.”
