Murdered journalist to be laid to rest in Donegal tomorrow

Eugene Moloney, the 55-year-old journalist who died after being attacked as he was walking home after a night out in Dublin, will be laid to rest in Fahan tomorrow.

Eugene Moloney, the 55-year-old journalist who died after being attacked as he was walking home after a night out in Dublin, will be laid to rest in Fahan tomorrow.

His funeral Mass takes place at 10am this morning in the Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace, Merrion Road, Dublin. This will be followed by removal to Donegal for burial alongside his mother at St Mura’s, Upper Fahan tomorrow at 3pm.

Mr Moloney was a very well known and highly respected reporter who covered the Troubles at their height and also wrote extensively about music.

He died after being attacked in Camden Street at around 4.30am on Sunday, June 24 as he was walking to his home in Portobello.

Twenty-one-year-old Gary Burch of Kennington Close, Templeogue has been charged with manslaughter.

Mr Moloney is survived by his brother Sean, sister Roisin and girlfriend Chichi Tran.
