Buncrana’s Scoil Mhuire was agog yesterday with the news that its video has gone viral on YouTube with more than 22,000 hits across 56 countries in just two days.

Teacher Katrina McGonagle, who co-ordinated the ‘lip dub’ of both teachers and students singing along to the Undertones’ hit, Teenage Kicks, said she was absolutely amazed at the response to their school video.

She said: “There is a massive buzz here today. We never, ever expected a response like this. What’s happened has even got mentioned in the national media. It really is exciting for us all - not just the students!”

Ms. McGonagle explained the background: “Emile Rainey, who is the son of our Principal, Liam, has his own video and photographic company and he suggested we do a video to showcase the school and its talented kids. He did this on Monday and by Friday we had it done and dusted.

“It’s only been on the net for two days but already it’s a massive hit. It’s taken on a life of its own. On Sunday, we were on the trending list on YouTube in that we were in the top five most viewed items right across the world.

“It really has been great for the school. Everyone here is floating on air today.”
