No, don’t panic, the trophy is free to come and go unimpeded.

What’s happening is that the signs, flags and bunting decorating most of the county’s highways and byways are to be removed.

Peadar Thomas, DCC Area Manager for Roads and Transportation, proposed the initiative at yesterday’s meeting of the Donegal Electoral Area Committee.

“It’s a problem that’s getting worse. We had a lot of signs and flags going up, and, fair play to everyone in the county, they looked great. But now, with the stormy weather coming in they’re starting to be blown down and are posing a real danger to the public,” he explained.

Mr Thomas said that crews would not be sent out specifically to take down signs, but would do so in whatever areas they happened to be working.

Members of the public are asked to do their part by taking down any signs, flags or bunting next to public roads as soon as possible.
