Rory’s rocking again for Donegal

Before Donegal’s All Ireland semi-final victory on August 26th a Donegal jersey appeared on the iconic statue of Blues guitarist, Rory Gallagher in Ballyshannon.

With Cork in the semi, the Ballyshannon born Gallagher’s allegiance to Donegal caused a bit of a ripple and the story took off nationally with use interest in print and online media.

The idea was the brainchild of keen Rory Gallagher fan, Barry O’Neill, who works for RTÉ as a radio sports producer, and his wife Lorraine. Sadly, on the eve of the match the jersey was ripped off the statue.

Barry and Lorraine were determined to find a solution and the Donegal Democrat reported in August that a new vandal proof jersey was on the way and on Thursday afternoon the new look Rory Gallagher, in a predominantly white away jersey, was revealed.

On closer inspection fans will see that the new jersey comes with a specially fitted zip and this means it can be removed at night to ensure that any geniuses who might wish to damage it won’t get the chance.
