Fianna Fail Councillor Philip McGlynn was elected the new Mayor of Bundoran Town Council at their annual general meeting on Tuesday afternoon.

Councillor McGlynn was elected as Mayor unopposed. Independent Florence Doherty had nominated Sinn Fein councillor Sean Carthy for the position, but he did not get a seconder. Later, he was elected as Deputy Mayor.

Cllr McGlynn, a Bundoran hotelier was first elected to the local Authority in 2004 and held the chairmanship once before in 2008.

There was an interesting contest for the election of Leas Cathaoirleach, which saw veteran Fianna Fail Councillor Sean McEniff defeated by Sinn Fein candidate Cllr. Sean Carthy much to the surprise of some in attendance, as he was already the outgoing Deputy Mayor.
