Two Chinese nationals have been remanded in custody following a €1.6 million haul of cannabis plants in Laghey on Friday.

Two Chinese nationals have been remanded in custody following a €1.6 million haul of cannabis plants in Laghey on Friday.

Ming Sun (44) and Xia Hua He (34) were charged with possession, with intent to supply and cultivation of cannabis in a warehouse at Trummon, Laghey, last Friday.

Judge Kevin Kilrane remanded them in custody at a special sitting of Sligo District Court on Saturday night to Harristown District Court next Friday. No application for bail was made.

Gardai continuing their investigation into the discovery of 2,000 cannabis plants, have said they were appalled at the primitive living conditions of two suspects. A Gardai source said the men lived in squalid quarters inside a warehouse where the plants and growing materials were seized.
