There is more bad news on the jobs front with confirmation that 26 jobs are to go with the closure of a financial advice company in Gaoth Dobhair.

Eist agus Cuidiú, a debt management firm, was set up 11 months ago to offer advice for people caught up in the recession and help to restructure personal debts.

Local TD, Deputy Pearse Doherty says the closure of the firm is a huge blow to the 26 employees.

“I am devastated for them,” he said. “Eist agus Cuidiú was established only in August of last year as a financial services call centre which offered help to people to get out of financial trouble through debt management. Despite significant state aid it was unable to find a way out of its own financial troubles.”

Deputy Doherty said one of the employees has told him their priority now was to ensure that the month’s pay that was due to them last week and hadn’t been paid along with all their other entitlements are paid in full.

“It goes without saying that there is no good time to lose your job but to do so at the height of an unemployment crisis and only days after the Central Statistics Office announce that Donegal had an unemployment rate of 26% is deeply worrying,” he added.

“I would call on the directors of this company to ensure that all of their employees receive all of their entitlements and that they are treated with respect.”
