Back to school for Coleman

A young man who just a short six years ago was voted “Sports Star of the Year” in his local school and received his award from one of Donegal’s most respected footballers, this week adapted a reverse role as he presented the very same awards to sports stars of the future in Killybegs on Monday last.

Ireland, Everton and, most importantly St. Catherine’s own Seamie Coleman was the guest of honour at the St. Catherine’s VS Awards night on Monday night where he presented the awards to the students recognising their contribution to the school in the past year.

Back in 2006, Seamie was the recipient of the Sports Star of the Year in the school where he was presented with the award by Donegal legend Manus Boyle.

Speaking to the packed sports hall, the personable Coleman said, “As you all know I’m not a many of many words - I prefer the action on the pitch but I must say I spent the best years of my life here in St. Catherine’s.

“I remember well the night that I received the award from Manus - it was one of the proudest nights in my life and I feel humbled here tonight to be presenting the same awards.”
