A special event aimed at lighting the skies with hope is set to take place at Marble Hill beach on May 19.
As part of the lead up to the “Relay for Life“ fund-raising event being held at the end of May, the beach event is called “Light a Light for Life” and could see one of the most striking images captured if all goes to plan.
The objective is to get as many people as possible to the scenic beach near Creeslough on the evening of May 19.
Organisers are selling candles on the night, from just before 9pm, just as dusk approaches. From there all candle holders will move on to the beach and form groups to spell out the word “HOPE” in solidarity with all those affected by cancer, past and present.
The novel idea will then be photographed from an aerial platform to produce a unique image with a profound message.
The organising committee are hoping for the weather to co-operate and that many people will come along on the evening to make it a great success.
One of the Committee, Garvan McCloskey, says it will be a great evenings fun as there will be music and entertainment beach side on the night as well.
They are seeking donations of €5 per candle on the night and all proceeds will go to the Relay for Life charity.
“It’s called ‘Light a Light for Life’ on Marble Hill and we are launching this event at dusk on May 19. We are hoping people will gather from about 9 o’clock at the beach and there will be some entertainment but basically its a celebration of coming together. We are going to be giving out candles and lights for donations and its just going to be on the theme of ‘Relay for life and Hope’.”
“Really what we want to do is light up the letters of the word ‘HOPE’ with people and their candles. Part of this event is going to streamed during the Relay for Life event as well when it takes place,” he added.
