A training session involving some of the cream of Letterkenny athletes which was videoed last weekend at the Aura Leisure complex has received well over 1,000 ‘hits’ from all over the world since being downloaded on the Flotrack website which aims to promote the sport of athletics.

Highly promising local athletes, including Mark English, Ruairi Finnegan, Dan King and Christy Johnston, who have all won national and international acclaim, were filmed at around tea-time on Saturday undergoing their training regime.

Since being downloaded by Leo Finnegan, the images have been viewed on around 1,200 occasions up to Tuesday night.

“There’s been phenomenal interest from all around the globe. When I checked Flotrack on Monday evening just 48 hours later, there were 999 hits and this has since risen to well over the 1,000 mark,” said Teresa McDaid, Letterkenny A.C. coach and Athletics Ireland Development Team Manager.

While the majority of hits have come from Ireland (78%), eleven percent have involved viewers in the U.K. and 6% in the United States.

“There’s also been interest from Sweden, Austria, Australia, Belarus, Canada, Ethiopia and India,” Teresa revealed.

“I can’t believe it. It’s a great boost for the club and for all the athletes. And when you see how well Maria McCambridge and Brendan Boyce have done in recent weeks, it’s an added bonus.”
