A fresh bid is under way involving a police search dog in a new effort to locate teenager Arlene Arkinson who has been missing since 1994.

A six-officer PSNI team aided by a recovery dog and its handler are searching up to 30 locations near the border in West Tyrone in a bid to find Castlederg teenager Arlene.

Last August the PSNI said it would carry out 48 searches for the teenager who went missing after a night out in Bundoran almost two decades ago and so far it has searched 18 locations in its bid to find her.

A PSNI spokesman said: “The sites to be covered in this phase of the search strategy have links to the overall investigation into Arlene’s disappearance and murder.”

“Searches will continue to be conducted on a planned roll-out, depending on weather conditions, availability of resources and operational commitments,” added the spokesman.
