Donegal represented at ‘The Gathering Ireland’ national launch

The Gathering Ireland 2013 tourism initiative was launched last Friday in Dublin Castle by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny T.D. in the company of An Tanaiste, Minister Varadkar, and Minister of State Ring. . The aim of this project is to get individuals and groups to invite people back to Ireland to celebrate Ireland and its people. Donegal was represented om a panel of five people representing various groups who are undertaking events during 2013. Adrian Gallagher of the Gallagher Clan told of the Clan’s plans to hold the 2nd Gallagher Global Gathering in Gortahork from 6th-14th September 2013.

Adrian Gallagher feels that this is a very important initiative as it allows ordinary people get involved in creating the agenda for our visitors. “As with our own Gallagher Gathering it is a personal invitation to come to Ireland and local groups can create the itinerary for their visitors to come to that local area. Whether they be in small or large numbers that will give a more “real” experience. We have plenty of facilities and venues in the county that will be delighted to row in and make their premises available,” he said. “From our efforts the whole local economy will gain. We as a community have to make a little effort in order to help ourselves, rather than relying on ‘someone else!’ Failte Irealnd and Tourism Ireland will help but we, ourselves, have to do the initial work”.
