Surf’s Up for President Higgins

Still riding on the crest of a wave since his election victory, Irish President Michael D Higgins is now Bundoran bound this summer for one of the country’s largest surfing events.

The organisers of this year’s surf and music festival, Sea Sessions, which takes place in June have confirmed that President Higgins is due to attend this year’s event on Saturday, June 30, and make an address to the concert goers.

His appearance will see him take the same stage as The Happy Monday’s and The Kaiser Chiefs.

The announcement has been welcomed by local tourism officer for Bundoran. Tracey Ferguson, who says he will be a welcome visitor to the town.

She says she understands he agreed to make a return to Bundoran after meeting the festival organisers while on the presidential election campaign trail last year.

“I’m delighted to hear he is coming. It’s great for the town and also things like today with the An Post RÁS - it’s another boost for Bundoran,” she stated.
