A public workshop to review the progress of the ‘Backing Ballyshannon’ initiative will be held in the Abbey Centre, Ballyshannon on Saturday, April 28 from 4 to 7pm.

“The workshop is a follow on from the public meeting that was held in November 2010 to discuss ways to counteract the worst effects of the recession on the people and the businesses of Ballyshannon and surrounding area,” Town Clerk Mary Daly explained.

“At that event, 50 suggestions were put forward. Since then, a small group have continued to meet under the ‘umbrella’ of Ballyshannon Town Council. That group has maintained links with those who attended the initial weekend to see who was interested in implementing any of the 50 suggestions.

“It is timely now to review the progress made and decide whether to continue with this initiative or, alternatively, do something else,” Ms Daly said.

A programme for the workshop is being prepared. All organisations working in the town and surrounding area will be invited to offer their views as to whether this form of ‘joined-up’ thinking and action is still worth pursuing at a time when so many organisations are struggling to make ends meet. Local people and the Ballyshannon Diaspora will also have plenty of opportunity to offer their views at an open forum or during the social evening which will follow the workshop.”

So, if you wish to make a contribution to improving the future of our town, take this opportunity to have your voice heard and perhaps make a difference.

Any suggestions about the content and format of the workshop will be greatly appreciated. Contact Mary Daly on mdaly@donegalcoco.ie, 071 985 8270 or through our the Ballyshannon Town Council facebook page.
