Pretty Bridín Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh from Gaoth Dobhair who plays one of the most colourful characters in Irish soap is about to make head turns this week with her mischeviousness. Now, in her second year of drama at University College Galway Bridín returned to TG4’s favourite soap “Ros na Rún” as her character “Katie” following her much enjoyed trip to Australia.
Her character Katie has become somewhat of a troublesome teenager who often tells lies about very serious issues, such as, criminal acts and was actually found to be behaving in a bullying manner to one of the oldest characters and much loved actors Coilin during the course of a contorversial storylines. Her onscreen character has often prompted reaction from members of the public who confuse good natured Bridín with her devious onscreen character “Katie.”
“People keep giving out to me. It’s so funny because some of them are serious and some of them are only having a laugh. You can’t really take the things that people say to you very seriously because you have to understand that they are referring to your onscreen character. I remember I was in a shop one day and I approached an assistant to ask for a different size in an item of clothing. She asked me if I was the girl from Ros na Rún and when I told her that I was she launched into this whole speech about my behaviour,” she said.
This coming week, Bridín may brace herself for more reaction as she hints that Katie gets up to more mischeif. “Katie is going to be her sly self again this week,” she hints.
Storylines in the top soap include all the controversial aspects of Irish society and writers don’t shy away from contorversial issues making the weekly series hugely successful.
Bridín enjoys acting along side Niall Mac Eamharcaigh who hails from the nearby Rosses Gaeltacht. Both are father and daughter onset and enjoy eachother’s company whilst they work together on a daily basis. “It is great working with Niall. We have great craic together and we get on really well together which is great,” she said.
