Donegal has been hit with more earth tremors. Kenneth McDonagh of the Donegal Weather Channel has confirmed that a 1.1 magnitude tremor hit north Donegal last night. A second tremor, magnitude 0.7, struck at one minute past midnight.
He started receiving reports of a ‘big bang’ at around 9.20pm last night.
Kenneth said: “People from the Kerrykeel, Fanad, Dungloe and Rathmullan areas have contacted me. One person said they “heard a big bang and it was not thunder. Another man told me “Yeah, I heard a bang and felt the house shake. It definitely wasn’t thunder, it was the same as last time.”
Kenneth explained what may have caused the phenomenon. “Solar storms has been known to cause movement in the tectonic plates. There was an M7-class solar eruption earlier last night. The blast accelerated energetic protons toward Earth and a solar radiation storm is now developing around our planet.”
