Sinn Féin councillor Jack Murray has welcomed confirmation that Donegal County Council is to host an event in memory of Garda Gary McLoughlin who tragically lost his life in a collision in Burt in 2009.

The event, which will take place in the County House, Lifford at 2pm on May 4, is the result of a motion submitted by Cllr. Murray in July last year.

Welcoming the event, Cllr Murray said: “Last July, I asked the council to host an event to mark the tragic death of Garda McLoughlin who lost his life while serving the community in Donegal while only 24 years of age.

“The death of a young man who was working to serve and protect the people of Donegal shocked everyone in the county.

“It is fitting that we pay tribute to him and his family as was done previously after the death of Garda McCallion in Letterkenny.”
