The recipient of the Donegal Person of the Year award will be announced at the Harcourt Hotel in Dublin next Tuesday night. The prestigious event is one which is heavily attended by Donegal people from throughout the country.

Last year, International playwright Brian Friel was bestowed the honour of Donegal Person of the Year. Hundreds of patrons from the stage, screen and film and academics from most universities were present at the event.

The luxurious Harcourt Hotel in the heart of Dublin is owned by the McGill brothers from Glenties, making it an extremely appropriate venue for the announcement. Glenties is very much affiliated with many of Brian Friel’s writings.

The announcement will be made at 8.30pm and refreshments will be served afterwards. Those who attend the exciting event can enjoy music and dancing until midnight and there will no cover charge on the night. The last function organised by the Donegal Association in Dublin was their Annual Christmas party.

Wonderful evening

Foley’s of Merrion Row was the venue for that occasion and it proved to be a wonderful evening very much enjoyed by all. The Annual Donegal Person of the Year Award Dinner Dance will be held once again this year in The Regency Hotel, Dublin. The wonderful hotel is one of the Jim McGettigan owned hotels and the function will be held in the recently opened 1,000 seater Conference Room. Always a night to remember and a top date in every Donegal person’s calendar, the Award Night Dinner will be held on Saturday March 3th next. Special room rates and free car parking are available. Tickets for the dance will be available from any committee member.

Everyone is invited to attend this Tuesday night and they are encouraged to bring their friends along. All information can be seen on the website: www.donegalassociation.ie
