AS the countdown to the new Ulster Senior League season gathers pace, Bonagee United have confirmed the appointment of Sean ‘Budgie’ Sandilands as their new assistant manager.
Sandilands, who is currently in charge at Kilmcrennan Celtic, will become No 2 to Peter Moran at Dry Arch Park.
“We’re delighted with the appointment,” a club spokesperson for Bonagee said yesterday. “It’s great to have Sean on board. He has plenty of experience in the game here in Donegal and more importantly, he knows what it takes to win things and be successful.”
Sandilands has enjoyed notable success with Kilmacrennan Celtic and as player-manager, led them to their first ever Donegal Premier Division title in April 2009, which they retained the following season. He has also been involved in the management of the Donegal League’s Oscar Traynor team and this season, took charge of the Donegal Youth side for the first time.
Sandilands also had a brief stint as manager of the Termon GAA team.
He will see out the season as manager with Kilmacrennan before he joins Bonagee. Kilmaacrennan have only four league games left to play in their campaign and currently lie fourth in the table, although they are 14 points behind the leaders, Gweedore Celtic.
The new Ulster Senior League season begins on Sunday, April 1.
