At this week’s meeting of Ballyshannon Town Council the Mayor of the town announced that approximately €20,000 will be allocated to local groups from its Development Fund.

Cllr. John Meehan said, “In these challenging economic times Ballyshannon Town Council is delighted to be able to help all these groups and will continue to help other groups as its Arts Grants which will be advertised this month and will be allocated in May.

“Tonight we are delighted to formally present the proceeds of our Mayor’s Ball which was held last December to our three nominated charities.

The Mayor announced that €1.500 will go to STOP to aid its work in suicide prevention, €1,500 to the Ballyshannon Mental Health Support Group and the proceeds from the raffle on the evening which amounted to €1,336 to North West Hospice.

Cllr. Meehan added that the Town Council in the current climate of financial uncertainty has managed its budget and allocation of funds to ensure that they are able to give monies back directly to groups in the town.

“I would like to thank everybody who supported the Mayor’s Ball last December in such large numbers.

“I am delighted to be presenting €4,336 to these three benefiting charities and I would hope that this annual event continues as a fundraising vehicle for local charities.

“These are the real winners at the end of the day” he concluded.
