In fact some donkeys are currently stabled in ‘half way homes’ until new permanent homes can be found. So if you have one acre of land, a field shelter or stable and you have spare time please consider giving a pair of needy donkeys a second chance at life.

Donkeys are always re-homed in pairs as they are sociable creatures and enjoy the company of their own kind. The Donkey Sanctuary always retains ownership of the foster donkeys and make welfare visits to their new homes several times a year in order to check that all is well.

Mares cannot be bred and no fostered donkey can ever be sold on. It is also important to remember that not all foster donkeys are suitable as children’s pets because of their backgrounds. Donkeys should never be considered as Christmas presents unless the new owner really has the time to commit to the animals’ needs.

So, if you have room in your heart for the ‘patter of tiny hooves,’ please give Danny Curran a call on 087 219 9977.

Donations of feed, haylage and nuts would also be very much appeciated.
