For one south Donegal girl the last few hours of 2011 proved to be the most romantic hours of her life and indeed a life changing experience.
On the afternoon of New Year’s Eve a taxi arrived at the home of Laura Corcoran from Donegal Town to bring her to what was then a mystery location on the instructions of her boyfriend, Stephen Harron, the General Manager in Magee of Donegal.
Laura had been expecting some sort of transport arrangements as the couple had planned to go out for the evening and both agreed that taking their own car was out of the question.
Laura was delivered to the prestigious portals of the award winning Harvey’s Point hotel where she was met by her boyfriend Stephen who told her that he had arranged for them to stay for the weekend as he was due the time off.
Little did Laura know what to expect when Stephen escorted her to the bedroom and opened the doors of the Presidential Suite - a suite of rooms which probably ranks as the most elegant in the country.
Deirdre McGlone of Harvey’s Point had held nothing back and had rose petals strewn along the deep carpeted floors and four poster bed and was quietly praying that there was going to be a positive outcome to the whole event.
Without any further ado, the popular Laghey man was down on bended knees, diamond ring in hand asking his love to be his wife ! Needless to say, the answer was “yes” much to the relief of the few people that had known in advance.
Stephen had gone to great pains to keep everything secret and even had arranged a totally new ensemble for Laura to wear over their weekend stay in the hotel.
However Deirdre McGlone had some of her own surprises up her sleeve - when the couple arrived down for dinner, they found that the restaurant had been booked out totally for their use and once again, their beautiful lakeside table was covered in fresh red rose petals.
Laura told the DPP/DD, “To be perfectly honest even when Stephen showed me the Presidential Suite - I hadn’t a clue
“This has simply been the happiest day of my life - one that I will treasure forever!”
