St. Vincent De Paul in Donegal says it has been overwhelmed by the generosity shown by members of the public in the run-in to Christmas.
Demand for SVP’s help over the Christmas period has increased by 30 per cent around the county.
It says it has been inundated with financial help, presents and food hampers. Letterkenny area president Rosa Glacken said the charity has been bowled over by the help it has received throughout Donegal over the Christmas period.
“We are absolutely astounded by the generosity of people - not just at church gate collections but also business, community groups, schools, and individuals who all contributed either financially or with food donations and presents,” she said. “It was amazing and we were bowled over. It has been much, much better than we expected and better than other years.”
She said people have really stepped up to the mark to help families struggling through the financial crisis.
