CRASH VICTIM LAID TO REST

A 21-year-old said yesterday that her father, who died in a collision on Friday “did everything for me and my mammy” and was “the core” of the family.

A 21-year-old said yesterday that her father, who died in a collision on Friday “did everything for me and my mammy” and was “the core” of the family.

Danielle Doherty was giving the eulogy at the funeral of her father Danny. “He was”, she said “a great daddy, husband and friend to me and my mammy and a lot of other people who knew him.

“He was a strong character and his presence was always felt and I know that will never change.”

St. Columba’s Church in Drung was packed to overflowing as hundreds gathered to mourn the death of the popular welder from Cabry, Quigley’s Point.

The married father of one was aged in his 60s. He died after his car was in collision with a 4 X 4 at Clar, Redcastle at around 4.30pm on Friday afternoon. Road conditions at the time were described as icy.

Parish priest Fr Tony Mailey said the entire community had suffered a great loss. He said Mr Doherty was a devoted, loving father, husband and brother. He was also a gentlemen, a man who was loved and valued by so many people.”
