The bi-monthly farmer’s market in Donegal town has found a new home, in the car park behind Begley’s Chemist.
The enormously popular event was forced to move from its previous home in the Diamond, because of planning laws. This summer, council officials confirmed that the market could no longer trade on the Diamond unless the council were to bring in casual trading bye-laws.
Jim McLaughlin, one of the market’s founders, welcomed the resolution to the issue yesterday.
He told the Donegal Democrat/People’s Press. “We loved our home on the Diamond, but, unfortunately, we were left with no choice but to leave it.
“However, we are absolutely delighted that we can re-locate to the car park, which is also an ideal location. All the traders are ready and raring to go.
“Our first market there will be this Saturday, October 1, from 10am to 3pm and the second, on the third Saturday of the month, October 15.
“We’re looking forward to seeing all our regular customers again, as well as many new faces.”
