Letterkenny Town Council is to is to consider setting up an umbrella body to oversee the holding of events in the town.
The call has come from Cllr. Dessie Larkin who feels the town council should take a partnership approach to organising events in the town such as the Oireachtas community games and Culture Night and Letterkenny Live.
He has called for the town council to meet with their partners that they celebrate events with.
He also suggested the town looks at enlarging its Halloween celebrations.
“We need to look at the money we are investing, can it be invested better and can we access extra money,” he said.
“That could be the umbrella for all events. and we should use as many themes as possible.
“We should have the town park utilised six or seven times a year for these sort of events.”
Cllr. Jim Lynch, who seconded the motion, said Letterkenny is generally not good at collaborating.
”There has not been enough amalgamation or collaboration over the years.
“There is need for us to look at our strengths and weaknesses. Maybe a lot of people don’t realise how their money is being spent. We need a think tank to pull it all together.”
