One of the North-West’s most prestigious eating and accomodation establishments, the Castle Grove Country House Hotel located at Ballymaleel just outside Letterkenny, has scooped another major award.
Nominated for Best Hotel Restaurant by the readers of the ‘Sunday Independent’ Life magazine, in association with the Irish Restaurant Association, the 4 star hotel received the award at a special ceremony in Belfast’s Merchant Hotel on Monday last.
“We received an e-mail on the Friday before informing us that we had been nominated for ‘Best Hotel Restaurant, County Donegal’ and were invited to the ceremony. We couldn’t believe it when our name was announced,” said proprietor Mary T. Sweeney.
It adds another award to the ever growing list earned by Castle Grove including its 4 stars from the Irish Tourist Board; an AA Rosette; and a Michelin recommendation. The hotel was also a bronze medal winner in the 2011 Panel of Chefs of Ireland awards.
“We’re delighted with this latest award - it was a lovely surprise to receive it,” said Mary.
Castle Grove’s award winning restaurant offers mouth-watering cuisine, prepared with dedication and care by its award winning chef, and served by discreet and friendly staff. The restaurant provides the very best of local Irish food including fresh fish, tender juicy roasts and vegetables fresh from the hotel garden, attractively presented and accompanied with an extensive wine list.
“Our head chef, Emmanuel Cohergne was born in Paris and trained under a Michelin star chef. Emmanuel combines his love of French and Irish cuisines along with seasonal, local produce to create a delicious value for money menu.
No trip to Donegal is complete without a visit to Castle Grove,” Irene Sweeney insisted yesterday.
Originally built in 1695 by the Grove family, the extensive gardens were designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown and draw gasps of admiration from all visitors.
The same can be applied to all who taste either the food or accomodation in the stately home atmosphere of Castle Grove Country House Hotel.
The large walled garden has a south facing aspect and provides fruits, herbs and vegetables for the restaurant - truly home grown products and all adding to the uniqueness of the hotel.
All of the bedrooms are en-suite and individually decorated whilst retaining the elegance of the house with all of its Georgian features and antiques.
Irene acknowledged the hotel’s loyal customers for their continued support and thanked those who had voted for them. “We appreciate it very much.”
She also paid tribute to Pallas Foods who sponsored the award in their category,
