Buncrana man Joe Murphy, who has been engaged in public protests against the government’s budget since December, is planning to walk from Malin Head to the Dáil next month for his latest protest.

He is calling on members of the public to join him for all or part of the walk, and will also be looking for people to join from other counties.

“There’s a lot of planning to do for it,” said Joe. There will be a meeting for anyone interested in the walk at 8pm on Monday, Feb. 13th at the Atlantic Bar, Buncrana.

Joe posted the idea earlier this week to the Facebook page for the group Donegal Action Against Austerity.

“I couldn’t believe the response I was getting from it,” Joe said.

In December, Joe and his son engaged in a slow drive to Dublin to protest the government’s budget 2012. Later that month he called a protest meeting in Letterkenny that drew hundreds of people to Market Square, and last month he called for protests to be held in towns and villages across the county. More than a dozen communities responded.
