New business a vote of confidence in Donegal town

News of a new business venture is welcome at any time but in the present recessionary climate it is particularly welcome especially when it is a former owner who is prepared to show confidence in the local economy once again despite the challenges.

News of a new business venture is welcome at any time but in the present recessionary climate it is particularly welcome especially when it is a former owner who is prepared to show confidence in the local economy once again despite the challenges.

Visitors to Donegal Town would have been surprised to see cherry pickers and painters and deliveries of furnishings on the Diamond in Donegal Town in the early hours of Sunday morning as preparatioms were made to get the new food outlet refurbished.

The owner of the new venture, Tony Foody, was present, paint brush in hand, ensuring that everything was going to plan.

Tony, who previously ran a renowned men’s fashion shop told the Donegal Democrat/People’s Press: “I still have a lot of confidence in this town and I firmly believe that there is a market for this type of business. As everybody knows, I owned Classic Casuals for years and I always maintained that the day it started costing me money I would cease trading.

“In my brief period of semi-retirement, I have put a lot of research into this project and am confident that it will succeed.

“It will include a quality delicatessen, sandwiches and baguettes made to order, joints of the day, all day breakfasts and a selection of top quality coffees.

“There will be both a sit-in and a take-out facility and there will also be an in house grocery selection. In fact, it will be the only grocery shop in the middle of the town.

“We intend opening until at least 8pm in the evening which will provide an outlet for last minute shoppers.”

The business community in Donegal Town have expressed their delight at the news with one businessman saying: “It is great to see one businessman taking a stand against all the doom and gloom and getting on with things. He deserves all the support we can gives him.”

‘Foody’s’ will be opening its doors in the next fortnight and is the latest in a string of new ventures in Donegal Town including The Bank Bar and Lounge, Pure Indulgence, Beauty Salon, McGinley Motors, The Style Outlet, Boutique, The Mill Restaurant, the Peak Bar and Restaurant and a large extension to Cara Pharmacy.
