A public consultation on the proposed link road to the new A5 in Lifford has opened.

The preferred option for a link from the N15 south of Lifford to the new A5 Western corridor will be on display at Donegal County Council Offices, County House, Lifford and the DRD Roads Service Northern Ireland, 20 Derry Road, Strabane until May 8.

Donegal County Council is inviting submissions and observations are invited, in writing, from interested groups or individuals.

Roughan and O’Donovan Consulting Engineers were commissioned in Summer 2010 to undertake the design and Environmental Impact Assessment of the scheme.

Cllr Patrick McGowan welcomed the progress on the project to date saying that the Dublin To Derry/Donegal motorway was making good progress through the various stages in Northern Ireland and the fact that projects of this nature do not have to go a final decision making body like An Board Pleanala will mean that with the right political backing both these schemes should come into existence together.

“It should be also be a priority for Donegal County Council and all our Oireachtas representatives to push to have the Ballybofey-Stranorlar bypass and the Lifford to Letterkenny dual carriageway included in any reviews of National Roads projects for the future,” he said.
