The death of a 4-year-old in a tragic accident yesterday (Thursday) evening, has left the people of Donegal town and environs numb with shock and grief.

Daniel Clearly, of Drumbar, was playing in a yard beside his home at around 5.30pm when it is understood that a six-foot steel door from a container fell on him.

A neighbour described how his mother Patricia was “frantically trying to save the lad”.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is understood that his father Keith, who runs a haulage and plant hire business, was out of the country at the time.

Gardaí are investigating what they are describing as “a tragic accident.”

A post mortem is to be carried out at Letterkenny General Hospital.
