There was widespread shock and numbness in Bundoran and the wider Donegal community at the sudden death of local business woman Jackie Cassidy, née Jones, late of Ardfarna, Bundoran and formerly of Drumacrin Avenue, East End.
The popular business woman, who was only 52-years-old, was found dead at her Ardfarna home on Friday morning last.
Jackie was well known in the north west as proprietor of the popular Image boutique chain, which was based in Donegal Town and Bundoran, and at one point, she also operated a business in Enniskillen.
Her formative training in the clothing and fashion industry was garnered after working with Feehily’s Drapery shop on Main Street and she later spent over 20 years working with Slevins Department Store of Ballyshannon.
Jackie then branched out on her own and had a natural flair for business and communication.
Large crowds paid their respects at the wake over the weekend and at the funeral yesterday morning in the Church of Our Lady, Star of the Sea. Burial followed in St. Ninnidh’s Cemetery followed Requiem Mass conducted by Fr Frank McManus C.C. who spoke highly of the deceased and the respect in which she was held by the wider community.
Bundoran Town Mayor Cllr. Michael McMahon, a friend of the family, said everyone in the town and extended community were “utterly shocked” at the news of her death.
In a glowing tribute to the deceased, he told the Democrat/DPP: “Jackie was very highly thought of by everyone here and her sudden death at the age of 52 has left everyone utterly shocked. She was always a very dynamic and positive person, as well as a very loving and charitable woman.
“I believe she was born in Enniskillen but she was reared on Drumacrin Avenue and was a Bundoran woman through and through.
“On behalf of the people of Bundoran, I would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to the Jones family, the Cassidy family and her partner Christy Barry. Our thoughts and prayers are with her children Joseph, Julian and Jason, sisters Karen, Colette and Jennifer and her brother Paul as well as her extensive circle of family and friends.”
