Having had personal experiences with Our Lady’s Hospital, Crumlin and seeing first hand the good work done by all staff there, Ballyshannon woman, Tracey Flood, has organised a fundraiser to thank everyone who has helped her and many other families through their child’s illness.

A 1,000 km walk will take place on Sunday, 2nd October at the Mall Park, Ballyshannon from 12 noon to 3.30 pm. The 1,000 km will be done on a cumulative basis of 1,528 full laps of the running track and we are looking for over 200 children to get involved in the ‘get out and walk for kids challenge’.

Children can pledge to do as many laps as they want, the important thing is to join in. Pledge forms will be distributed through schools next week. Laps done by parents pushing babies/toddlers in their buggies will count as well.

If you don’t get your pledge in, don’t worry you can register on the day. Every lap counts!

A pledge/donation of €3 per walker or €10 per family of 4 or more will be greatly appreciated. Everyone who walks on the day will be entered into a draw for cinema tickets.

We are also running a raffle in conjunction with the walk and these cards will be on sale in local businesses. Draw for this will take place in Bridgend Bar on15th October, 2011.

First walkers, including some children’s characters are off at 12 noon. If children want they can come in fancy dress as well.

The day will finish up around 3.30 pm with a novelty ‘High Heeled Relay Walk’. We are looking for male volunteers to make up teams of 4 to walk or waddle one lap of the track. This can be done in fancy dress or your club colours. Teams can be made up from clubs, groups of friends, workplaces etc.

Monies raised will be donated to Sligo Paediatric Department, SGH, Our Lady’s Children Hospital, Crumlin and The Ronald McDonald House, Crumlin – this is an onsite facility providing accommodation, care, comfort and support for families while their children are seriously ill in the hospital.

So please come along and join the ‘get out and walk for kids challenge’ on Sunday, 2nd October at the Mall Park, Ballyshannon.
