Man charged over fatal crash
A 29-year-old Monaghan man has been charged with dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol following a fatal road collision in which a Fanad woman and her unborn child were killed.
Two others also died in the crash and one man remains in a serious condition in hospital.
Kevin McArdle of Longfield, Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan, appeared at a special sitting of Carrickmacross District Court on Tuesday evening.
He was remanded on continuing bail of €1,000 to appear in court again in four weeks' time after he was charged with the offences.
The fatal three car collision took place at Monaltybane on the N2 near Carrickmacross in Monaghan on January 27th.
39-year-old Roisin Connolly, who resided in Dublin with her husband Stephen, died along with her five month old unborn baby in hospital after the collision. They had been returning from Donegal to Dublin after visiting relatives.
Two other men, 27-year-olds Paul Carroll and Glenn Curtiss, both from Co Meath who were travelling in the same car as the accused, also died.
Ms Connolly's husband Stephen survived the accident.
Kevin McArdle also was hospitalised in the crash and was questioned by gardai on his release recently.
