Burtonport and west Donegal is mourning the death of a popular 28-year-old man who died in a tragic accident in Austrlaia.

Burtonport and west Donegal is mourning the death of a popular 28-year-old man who died in a tragic accident in Austrlaia.

Senior officials in the the Department of Foreign Affairs have been in liasion with local authorities to expedite the return of the remains of Shaun McBride to his loved ones.

Shaun died in Western Australia following, what is believed to have been, a tragic scaffolding accident at the weekend. Shaun (28) had just returned there six weeks ago, having secured a new four-year work contract.

It is understood he returned to Donegal earlier in the year to complete administrative paperwork and had secured a four-year work permit to enable him to return to Australia. He was due to return to Ireland in September to be best man at a wedding and was said to have bene delighted with the new contract.

“All efforts are being made to repatriate the body of Shaun from Perth back to Ireland. Every effort is being made to bring him home. There has been huge co-operation with many of the authoorities on both sides of the world, despite the bank holiday weekend here,” the Democrat was told.

Meanwhile local Cllr David Alcorn said: “Shaun was a fine strong man who worked in Dublin and in London before moving to Australia a couple of years ago. He was a great worker and a member of a very good family who are very much involved in our community in Burtonport.

“A huge number of people have been calling to the family home to convey their sympathy. The only thing we can do is pray and remember his mother Sylvia, brothers and sisters,” he said.
