Gardaí are investigating an armed raid at the Manorcunningham post office yesterday, when a lone raider threatened staff with a sawn-off shotgun.

Gardaí are investigating an armed raid at the Manorcunningham post office yesterday, when a lone raider threatened staff with a sawn-off shotgun.

Garda Superintendent Vincent O’Brien, who is leading the investigation, said no one was physically injured in the robbery although a staff member was suffering from shock as a result.

Superintendent O’Brien told Highland Radio yesterday afternoon that at about 3 pm yesterday a lone raider armed with a sawn-off shotgun entered the post office, threatened staff and got away with a small sum of money. The raider made his getaway in a green Vauxhall Cavalier with an English registration number. The vehicle was later found abandoned in the Creggan area of Derry.
