The official launch of the Urban Renewal Project at Main Street in Milford will take place on Sunday.
The opening of its newly enhanced Main Street will be performed by Councillor Cora Harvey, Mayor of Donegal County Council.
In 1998, following the completion of urban renewal works, a public consultation process was undertaken whereby it was agreed that renewal works along the Main Street should be prioritized. Milford is renowned for its unique narrow main and side streets, therefore it was recognised that alternative off-street car parking provision would be required to facilitate the progression of renewal works on the Main Street.
Construction works involved the separation of the project into two phases in order to cater for orderly development and provision of off-street parking during the construction of the Environmental Improvement Scheme.
Phase one saw the development of an off-street car park scheme plus the creation of a link road between the Kilmacrennan Road and the Church Road.
During phase two urban renewal works along the Main Street between the Diamond and Public Service Centre road consisting of undergrounding of overhead services, new decorative lighting, street furniture and provision of new footpaths, were carried out.
The urban renewal works are now complete and the improvement works will act as a catalyst for further investment in this important strategic town and will make it an even better place to live, shop, visit and do business. Donegal County Council acknowledges the support and co-operation of the public and local businesses during the construction phase of the works.
