As Trocaire’s Lenten campaign comes to an end the agency is making a nationwide appeal for people to return their Trocaire boxes to their local parish church this coming weekend, April 30th and May 1st.

“For almost 40 years the change that people in Co. Donegal put in the Trocaire box has been changing the lives of families and communities all over the developing world. Every coin the boxes have held over the last four decades has travelled the world transforming lives and giving the poor a voice,” said Trocaire’s north-west development officer, Lawrence McBride.

“The power of the money donated in Donegal during Lent should not be underestimated. In tiny, forgotten communities, farmers’ crops are flourishing, parents now earn a dignified living and children have a bright future to enjoy. You’ve given people freedom from hunger, from want, from injustice, and you’ve given them hope.”

“We are indebted to parishioners and clergy in the county who have shown us such great support throughout Lent,” said Lawrence, “and we’re hoping the people of Donegal will think of Trocaire this weekend and take a moment to drop their Trocaire boxes into their local church if they haven’t already returned them. This way we can start putting donations into action straight away”.
