Ticket prices described as exhorbitant

At this week's meeting of Ballyshannon Town Council ticket prices for the recent LAMA Awards dinner at the Crowne Plaza in Dublin came under severe criticism by both the councillors and the officials.
Ballyshannon was honoured with three separate nominations at the prestigious awards ceremony which was acknowledged as a great achievement by Town Clerk Ms. Mary Daly however she expressed the view that at €175 plus VAT, the tickets were extremely overpriced.
Cllr. Phonsie Travers agreed and said, "This price is an absolute disgrace and I just cannot understand how they arrived at it.
"The LAMA awards are for community groups and in this day and age these prices are away out of the range.
"At €200 plus the cost of suit hire, transport and probably overnight accommodation this is totally unacceptable and I would be recommending that we do not attend this function again if we are nominated in the future. We are not into junkets on this council.
"Of course we are all delighted that Ballyshannon had been nominated in three separate categories but there is no justification for that price,"
It was agreed that a letter would be sent to LAMA expressing the views of the Council.
