"Little Mary just wants to be found" - Margo

"I feel little Mary is tugging at me, I feel that she just wants to be found." - Those are the words of country singer Margo O'Donnell who is helping a distraught Donegal family to find their six-year-old daughter who mysteriously disappeared almost 34 years ago.

On March 18th, 1977 Mary Boyle - just three months off her seventh birthday, vanished without trace while out walking on a country lane in Cashelard, an area five kilometres north of Ballyshannon. She had been visiting her grandparents at the time.

"I do believe Mary is up there. Mary was always up there. Little Mary wasn't taken away by somebody. Mary is up there on that hillside in Cashelard and we need to find her body," Margo told the Democrat/People's Press on Sunday.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon a digger began a careful search of a hill top bog at Cashelard in the latest attempt to unravel the mystery of where little Mary Boyle's remains are. The dig continued yesterday with local gardai supervising the work.

The precise location for the dig had been pinpointed by a psychic who visited the remote hillside on Friday and recommended where he felt the dig should begin. The psychic, named to the Donegal Democrat as Yan Sterns (this name is now disputed and the exact identity of the psychic has not been confirmed to this newspaper) - had offered information before on Mary's believed whereabouts in 1977 and 1994.

His suggestions as to the location of Mary Boyle prompted detailed searches but no new information as to Mary Boyle's whereabouts were uncovered at that time.

Now, almost 84 years old, the psychic was brought by wheelchair from his plane to Ms O'Donnell's car on his arrival on Friday. He had visited various areas of Cashelard at the behest of Irish country singer Margo O'Donnell.

Ms O'Donnell knew the disappeared Mary Boyle and remains a very close friend of her mother, Ann Boyle. Ms O'Donnell stated on Sunday to the Democrat/People's Press: "We were given new information and we are taking action on it."

Speaking on Monday, Ms O'Donnell said: "I went up on Sunday on a mountain jeep and I looked at the place. It is very near where he (the psychic) first identified the spot in 1977.

"He told me at that time that if I looked under my feet I would find a yellow flower and when I took the measurements and used a compass to bring me to the exact spot given to me, I found a yellow flower," Ms O'Donnell said.

"I believe that little Mary is tugging at me. I just feel that she wants to be found."

Margo, who was clearly upset at the scene on Sunday evening stated: "When the digger put the bucket down for the first time it was a sad sight. I literally broke down. For 33 years is little Mary lying up there in that 'rotten clobber' as we call it in Donegal."

Margo praised all those who helped: "Ann Boyle and I will do everything we can and people have bee great. There's a man worked there all day with the digger and two members of another family."
